Responding to a select bid opportunity, Southside was awarded the Toyota of Gastonia renovations and additions project. Work consisted of selective demolition of the existing facilities, as well as additions and modifications to the sales floor, and the service area.

Designed by Architect Mackie Johnson, the 20,000 square foot addition includes service and showroom space as well as a complete renovation to the existing 40,000 square foot facility. The renovation consisted of updating the interior and exterior to comply with Toyota’s new branding concept.

The first challenge of this project involved changing several aspects of the design in order to meet the Owner’s budget. Work started while the changes were being finalized and budget and scope were approved three months into construction. The second challenge involved maintaining service and retail parts operations while renovating the existing building. Constant communication, coordination, and cooperation between the Owner and Southside Constructors, Inc. allowed business to continue while work was performed in phases in order to limit disruptions. During this time, offices for the administration and sales personnel were moved into temporary facilities on-site.

Construction of this automotive dealership provides not only new space but also new curb appeal. An entire new facade will invite customers into this new and improved Toyota/Scion dealership.
