Southside and MBAJ Architects were selected by Iredell County to construct a new 56,000 SF two-story office building to house their Department of Social Services support functions. The construction consists of a steel frame structure with brick and glass exterior. The floor plan is made up of 184 offices, conference rooms, a security office, a break room with kitchen, specialty family meeting rooms and file storage. The second floor includes a Board Room & Computer Training facilities. The exterior provides 308 paved parking spaces. The facility was constructed in two phases to reduce the schedule by three months.
Other unique features of this project include: An elevator & a dumbwaiter; a 500K earthwork package including site retention on ten acres; texture concrete for
patio area; a raised platform in the conference room; and a play area off of waiting area.
The building is located on an 8 acre parcel which is part of a 23 acre tract owned by the county. DSS is the first facility to be constructed on this sight.
DSS provides financial assistance, protective services, and an array of services to help individuals and families maintain/enhance health, safety and well-being.
