General Contractor selected to complete renovations and addition of the West Gastonia Chapter of the Boys and Girls Club

In January 2002, General Contractor Southside Constructors, Inc. was awarded the this project after prevailing in the bid selection process by offering the most economical proposal to complete proposed renovations and additions to the existing facility designed by local architect Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects (SCNA). SCNA and Southside set an aggressive seven month schedule for the completion of all portions of work so as to keep disruption of the organization’s daily activities to a minimum. To meet this aggressive schedule, Southside relied heavily on its in-house team of masons, which in turn, averaged the placement of 1,700 blocks per day for the entirely brick and block building. Exterior improvements included installation of diversion ditches as supervised by the Army Core of Engineers, installation of new storm water retention mechanisms, and expansion of the parking lot. New playground equipment was also installed at two separate locations, and improvements were made to the existing ball fields located to the rear of the facility. With the addition of a regulation-size basketball court located in the center of the gymnasium / auditorium, the new facility is now more than twice the original size.
- Demolition of all interior components
- Restoration of hardwood floors dating from 1965
- Addition of a 12,000 SF gymnasium/auditorium complete with basketball goals, bleachers, audio-visual equipment, and stage
- Completely updated kitchen and dining areas
- New classrooms and other educational facilities
- New restroom facilities with floor and wall-to-wall ceramic tile
- Extensive casework additions
