General Contractor selected to complete family life center
In May of 2000, Maranatha Temple Church of God was rapidly outgrowing its existing facility. The church needed and wanted a new, larger space for its members to congregate both in time of worship and in time of play. Southside, therefore, set out to construct a 12,000 SF family life center to accommodate the member’s increasing needs.
The new structure was designed as a single-story pre-engineered metal building accented with split-face masonry wainscoting that would house an auditorium / gymnasium, kitchen, performance stage, and various classroom structures which could be utilized for Sunday School classrooms, on-site child care, and/or any other number of multi-purpose uses. High bay metal halide light fixtures equipped with dimmers were utilized in the facility’s multi-purpose room so as to provide the necessary foot candle for both worship services and basketball games and/or other recreational activities. A fully equipped kitchen was also incorporated in the interior design with a pass-through window to the auditorium / gymnasium for easy access during group functions.
Other interior features for the auditorium / gymnasium included:
- Wall-mounted diffusers incorporated into the mechanical design to facilitate air distribution evenly throughout the large room
An audio-visual area to house state-of-the art electronic equipment utilized mainly by the music director and the choir (visible from the pulpit)
Durable flooring to withstand heavy foot traffic during both worship services and organized youth activities
Southside also arranged for Maranatha to purchase furnishings for the family life center at reduced prices
